Program Description:
The term biotechnology was first used by Karl Ereky in 1919 to describe the application of biosciences and their effects to human-made technologies. In brief, biotechnology encompasses human-directed activities that use organisms—particularly through molecular-level manipulation—to develop products and improve the environment, food, and human health. To advance their knowledge in this field, researchers should implement additional educational and research programs in biotechnology.
Graduates with a master’s degree in Medical Biotechnology, a field within the basic biomedical sciences, can improve the environment, food products, and health outcomes by applying new findings from molecular and cellular biology, genetic engineering, tissue engineering, and the study of living organisms. The primary purpose of medical biotechnology is to address public health challenges and produce valuable bioproducts such as vaccines, diagnostic kits, recombinant antibodies, food products, and medicines. Biotechnologists also work in educational, research, and commercial organizations to benefit society. Their main objectives are to:
- Provide the required biotechnology specialists for relevant research centers
- Train the specialists needed by the production sector
- Expand the country’s technological capacity as a foundation for the further development of advanced sciences
Objectives:
General Competencies*
Specific Competencies and Skills
By the end of the program, learners will be able to demonstrate the following skills:
- Communicate, interact, and contribute effectively in the work environment

- Handle animal models appropriately
- Demonstrate expert knowledge and skills in conducting research and writing scientific reports
- Understand the environmental impacts associated with their activities; conduct risk assessments; and apply safety instructions relevant to their field.
